Made To Measure

"A well Tailored suit is to women, what corsets are to men"

Made to Measure was a gallery show directed by the senior fashion students at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in February of 2013. The show displayed the student's work from both their Traditional Tailoring class and Corset class. Students were taught the structured layers of a classical corset, and the fine detail need for tradition tailoring.

Being my first gallery show, I really did not know what to expect. The gallery opening night was brimming with people eager to see our work. I felt very proud to have my work on display. Below is my two peices in the show, a tailored jacket and my darling corset.

Traditional tailoring has always been handled by made since early on, and learning all the intricated details of making the tailored jacket was an experience I'll treasure. My jacket is 100% charcoal japanese wool, with vintage satin in purple for lining.

Since I was to specialize in hand made corsets, I was really looking forward to the class. My corset has all the traditional pieces  from the 2 layers of laminated ticking fabric, lining, flannel and finally the outer green satin. The spiral steel bones are cut by hand and slip stitched in place. It's built to fit me, as is my jacket, and I'm really excited to work with clients.
